Nurturing Literacy
50 minute sessions with an individual child (preK-12th), targeting their specific needs in decoding, spelling, and fluency. The primary goal will be to get the child decoding words at grade level with >95% accuracy, then building fluency at that level. Spelling skills and techniques are taught throughout the sessions. Sessions are scheduled one month in advance by the first week of each month.
A comprehensive reading exam takes place in my office, and lasts about 30 minutes. You can stay with your child during this time or step into the lobby and wait. I will then talk with you about any gaps I find and what I can do to help, giving time for questions and clarification as desired about moving forward with reading therapy should you choose to. After our meeting, a summary of the assessments will be sent via email.
This course “will prepare you to teach new and emerging readers and to remediate reading problems at any age or ability, clinically one-on-one, in small groups and in classroom settings” (Click here for more information). It combines self-paced online content with live online meetings and job-embedded coaching with licensed trainer, Michelle Cicotte.

This seven week course will take place weekly on Zoom. It will give you all the materials, tools, and job-embedded coaching to know how to help any reader no matter their age or reading challenges using sound-to-symbol instruction. Asynchronous work is given each week to help synthesize what was learned in class as well as giving you an opportunity to practice the lesson plans with children. There is an open-book final exam at the end to earn the certification.
